Avevo a suo tempo esposto i miei dubbi sull’effettiva casualità della funzione random in iTunes. Adesso ho trovato in un forum una prima spiegazione: “When you click the random button, iTunes generates a shuffled list and plays through the songs in that order. I think that you may have to quit and reopen iTunes if you want it to regenerate the list”.

C’è anche una soluzione più semplice: “just Option+Click the random button. It will force it to create a new random list”.

Resta il problema di iPod. Dove questa soluzione mi pare piuttosto farraginosa: “I know on the iPod if you turn on random song it does a random sort of the list, then plays them all in that order… to change the sort turn on “repeat”, and press “back” from the first song (so the last song is playing), then “forward” again. It will re-sort the list… easy to verify on a small playlist”. E in più a me (e non solo a me) sembra ci sia una predilezione per alcuni artisti e album, malgrado la funzione random sia impostata su “brani” (“I think that iTunes is simply playing with the tags when building the random list”).
