In my hand is a report from the ONA’s recent national convention in Boston. I am broadly summarizing, but near as I can tell, the main message given to the conferees was that, journalistically, to attract reader eyeballs, you want to publish more pictures of bacon taped to cats. Give readers what they want, whatever it is.

Mi è venuta in mente una vecchissima vignetta di Mad Magazine che ironizzava sulle statistiche televisive, secondo cui l’opinione di uno spettatore che si esprimeva equivalesse a quella di milioni troppo pigri per farlo. E si vedeva un rubicondo manager che indicava un ingrandimento di una foto sotto cui un UNICO spettatore aveva scritto “More of Bronson Pinchot”, e dichiarava orgoglioso alla direzione di rete “America has spoken!”. :)
